As I wrapped up my time as Interim Executive Director at YWCA Bucks County, I’ve been thinking about the wonderful people and the impact the organization makes everyday in the lives of women and families. It has been meaningful, busy, and absolutely worth it. Now that Venita Garvin is officially in the captain’s chair, I feel good knowing the work we started is in steady hands.

One of the first things we tackled was the office itself. We gave it new life! Fresh, functional, and pleasant to walk into. A better environment lifts everyone’s mood and helps people do their best work. Plus, who doesn’t love a great before and after moment?

We also supported the team in mapping out and sharpening their strategic goals. Everyone had ideas, energy, and passion, and bringing that together in a clear direction helped set the stage for the next chapter. Then came the behind the scenes work. We reviewed internal processes, cleaned up what needed cleaning, and streamlined operations so the team could focus more on serving the community and less on wrestling with outdated systems.

Communication was another big focus. We wanted staff to feel heard, supported, and looped in. Clear and honest communication makes everything else run smoother, and it brings people together in a real way.

And of course, none of these matter without financial stability. We wrote grants to help secure the resources the organization needs and strengthen the foundation for the long term.

Because 2025 keeps us on our toes, we also made sure our IT and security were as strong as they needed to be. Protecting our staff and clients is non-negotiable, so we tightened up the systems behind the scenes too.

As I step out of this role, I’m thankful. The team at YWCA Bucks County welcomed me with open arms, good humor, and a lot of heart. I’m excited to see where Venita takes things next. She’s the right leader at the right time, and I know this organization will keep doing what it does best: empower women, support families, and stand up for what’s right.
